Job Summary

The Senior Accountant - International at Kforce in Washington, DC, will manage advanced accounting functions, focusing on nonprofit fund accounting, grant compliance, and financial reporting. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy of financial data, adherence to GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards, and compliance with donor and grant requirements, overseeing daily operations, month-end close, and financial analysis.

Must Have

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
  • Prepare and post complex journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts in accordance with nonprofit fund accounting principles
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and variance analyses for management and the Board of Directors
  • Support annual audits by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and working directly with external auditors
  • Track, reconcile, and report on restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Maintain accurate records of grant activity and ensure compliance with funding requirements
  • Prepare grant financial reports for funders in collaboration with program managers
  • Prepare monthly budget-to-actual reports and variance analyses for management and program staff
  • Assist in developing and monitoring budgets and forecasts
  • Provide financial insights to support decision-making across the organization
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and other applicable nonprofit accounting regulations
  • Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard organizational assets
  • Experience leading close processes and supporting audits
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and fund accounting principles
  • Knowledge of tracking, reconciling, and reporting restricted/unrestricted funds
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Skilled in accounting systems and intermediate to advanced Excel
  • High accuracy in journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting
  • Ability to perform budget-to-actual analysis and provide actionable insights
  • Ability to prepare accurate financial statements, supporting schedules, and variance analyses
  • Ability to maintain and improve processes to safeguard assets
  • Ability to collaborate with program managers, auditors, and leadership

Kforce has a client in Washington, DC that is seeking a Senior Accountant - International.

Summary:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and performing advanced accounting functions for the organization, with a focus on nonprofit fund accounting, grant compliance, and financial reporting. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy of financial data, adherence to GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards, and compliance with donor and grant requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

General Accounting:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
  • Prepare and post complex journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts in accordance with nonprofit fund accounting principles

Month-End & Year-End Close:

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
